The Dry Cleaning Process

Dry cleaning , unlike laundry, remains a mystery to many. It is a process that cleans clothes without water. The cleaning fluid that is used is a liquid, and all garments are immersed and cleaned in a liquid solvent -- the fact that there is no water is why the process is called "dry."

When we receive your clothes at Hilker's, our cleaning service representatives take extra care in the processing of each and every garment.

1. Tagging - Like all dry cleaners, we use a simple method to identify your clothes so they don't get mixed up with anyone else's. However, we take extra time and care to insure that our tagging of your clothes does not damage your clothes in any way. We would never staple a tag to the clothes, even the label, as some dry cleaners do.
2. Inspection - Clothes are then examined for missing buttons, tears, etc. that might need special attention. Pockets are cleared so that your valuables will be preserved.
3. Pre-treatment - We carefully inspect the garments for stains and treat them to make removal easier and more complete.
4. Dry cleaning - The clothes are then put into environmentally-friendly dry cleaning machines and gently cleaned.
5. Post-spotting - Any lingering stains are removed.
6. Finishing - This step includes pressing, folding, packaging and other finishing touches. Here's another place where Hilker's shines. We take the extra care to insure that your clothes maintain their best possible look and feel. You will see how we take care to stuff the sleeves and the bodies of garments with tissue to maintain shape. Collars receive unscented, cardboard inserts to retain their form. Your clothes will return to you looking their best!
